Cafe Mediterranean - Alabang Town Center

A few weeks ago, we had lunch at Cafe Mediterranean in Alabang Town Center.  On Sundays, most of the restaurants in ATC were full.  Luckily, we got one of the last few tables available.

I remember eating in their Greenbelt branch when I used to work in Makati.  At that time, the "in" thing was shawarma or gyro and they would have a huge slab of beef and chicken near the entrance just waiting to be sliced and made into that very famous wrap.

The interiors of their ATC branch reflect the restaurant's cuisine.

For our lunch, we had the pita sampler of three little plates with whole wheat pita bread.

The sampler of three little plates gives you the chance to try various appetizers on the menu.

Left to right:  Tzatzik, Baba Ghanoush (topped with black olive) & Hummus (sprinkled with paprika)

Tzatziki (the one pictured on the upper left) is a mixture of cucumber, yoghurt and mint.  This is actually very light and refreshing.

If you like smoked eggplants with tahini, then the Baba Ghanoush is for you.

The Hummus dip composed of garbanzos or chickpea and sesame dip will give you a protein boost.   I like the Baba Ghanoush best followed by the Tzatziki then the Hummus.

You can also opt to go straight to the main course which also includes some of their "little plates".

My choice is the Grilled Chicken Gyro Platter.  It is a complete meal that comes with grilled chicken, your choice of rice, pita or couscous.  It also comes with Baba Ghanoush, Tzatziki and Tabbouleh (made of cracked bulgur wheat, tomatoes and parsley).

My brother's choice was the Grilled Beef Gyro Platter.

If chicken and beef are not to your liking, they have other options that you can choose from.

These days with all the different dining places, I'm glad that Cafe Mediterranean has withstood the test of time.

Prepare to shell out 300 to 400 pesos for a Gryo Platter, a drink and taxes.
